And so it is Chrismakkah and Hanukkamas

The Christmas Spirit overwhelmed me this afternoon and I have been listening to my favorite Christmas music for hours.
The absolute favorite is I seek No Power, Glory a Finnish traditional Christmas Song , tightly followed by Star of Bethlehem, or Gläns Över Sjö och Strand (scroll down until you find an Elin Kolm playing piano click on the mp3 link, this is an extremely charming recording from a school concert, complete with crying baby in the background) a Swedish traditional.
And of course Carol of the Bells - Leontovich/Wilhousky.
And of course Happy Xmas (war is over) with John Lennon.
And Jul Jul Strålande Jul.
And Ave Maria.
And O Holy Night.
And Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
And The Little Drummerboy.
And Santa Baby.
And Do They Know it's Christmas.
And Feliz Navidad.
And Joy to the World.
As a general rule I prefer choir song. In the past couple of years we have actually gone to church on Christmas, and we are not church going folk. But the music. Ah.
You can't go wrong with a Church Choir singing in your Christmas.
But other than that, I'm not really into Christmas.
I mean apart from the lights.
And wrapping gifts.
And eating.
But really I don't like religious holidays.
Oh! You know what else is fun? Dean Martin singing Let it Snow. You can just imagine the great Las Vegas style sixties fake snow falling all around him.
And I really like giving presents. Except to the people I never know what to get, like The Husband (who gets something he has picked out himself), The Grouch and one of my sisters who is SO difficult that we reached a truce that we would not give each other pressies.
As for me, we have in the past couple of years asked people to donate to charity instead of giving us anything since we have way more than we need. Yes, it is a little empty without the mountain of pressies, but it is so much more satisfying.

Oh, I definitely agree with you about the choir music. All of my life, I've sung in variou and asundry forms of choirs. When I got married and moved, I gave up singing with the Nashville Symphony Choir. That's the last I group that where I was a member. That was over 6 years ago. I find that I especially miss singing with the choir at Christmas! I always enjoyed those performances the most.

Wow that is so cool Cheryl! BTW how did the caroling idea go?
I may have to rethink the Happy Xmas (war is over) by John Lennon, as our neighbors have been trying to learn to play it on the piano for the past two hours...

Unfortunately, the caroling thing didn't come together this year. My throat and lungs still are not back to normal from that recent bout of the flu a couple of weeks ago. I've filed that idea away for next year. I'll have a lot more time to get it organized and advertised. I guess it's a good thing, since the temps are WAAAAY below normal for us right now. 0 farenheit is not good for singing throats!!
